Mamatoto Village aims to educate low-income women of color in the D.C. Metro area, preparing them to enter motherhood and combatting the high rates of preterm birth, low-birth weight and infant mortality in the region. Their mission is two-fold: to provide complimentary and low-cost maternal health services and breastfeeding education, and to facilitate an increase in qualified women of color serving in the profession of Community Birthworker and/or Midwife.
